Modules
Background Note
This module contains background information on the scale of land degradation in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), its root causes, and its consequences. It outlines the Sustainable Land Management (SLM) approach to tackling the challenges posed by land degradation and, drawing on the lessons learnt from past experiences, explains why SLM is needed. Finally, the module identifies the major barriers and bottlenecks that need to be dismantled for SLM to take root as a central development priority in SSA.
