Climate Change Financing Workshop in Mauritania

The Government of Mauritania hosted a workshop on financing for climate change projects in Nouakchott on 1-2 December 2009. The World Bank and the World Bank Institute presented information, including materials created by the TerrAfrica partnership, aiming to improve national authorities’ knowledge of existing funding mechanisms for climate changes issues.

More than 30 people attended, including private sector leaders, national climate change experts, and representatives from local governments, development partners and civil society organizations.

As a result of the workshop, five national representatives will be trained to be focal points on financing mechanisms for climate change as the Government integrates climate risk management in national projects and policies.

The learning event followed a capacity building workshop the World Bank Institute organized in 2008, which focused on carbon financing and the Clean Development Mechanism.
